Siku were not part of my childhood, I didn’t visit Germany until I was in my twenties. They are a German company that produce a range of diecast cars and a lot of tractors and agricultural models. Initially they produced around the 1:64 scale but more recently they are slightly larger around 1:50 and 1:55 often with opening parts, rubber tyres and a higher price tag that Matchbox or Hot Wheels.
My Siku collection. My favourite is the Porsche Carrera GT.
Opening doors of different sorts: standard opening doors on the Porsche, the Mercedes 300SL’s famous Gull Wings and the suicide doors of the Citroen Traction Avant.
Originally made in West Germany now manufacturing is in China.
The bases include information about the car like speed, power and engine size.
One of the very few trailers, I have in my collection. here in combination with a Jeep Wrangler.
Siku are stocked in the Pepela Toyshop chain but their high price compared to Hot Wheels and the fact that many models are boring German saloons or tractors, which don’t interest me, means that they remain relatively few in the collection compared to Hot Wheels and Matchbox.
