Recently, Hot Wheels has put out some great models of Japanese Cars. In previous years Japanese cars were rare, but the international success of the Fast and Furious films has created a lot of interest, even in the American heartland of the US Muscle Cars. When I saw a picture of the Toyota 2000GT it immediately went to the top of my wants’ list. Now I have four 🙂
A dark red 2000GT also exists but being a Super Treasure Hunt, I doubt I will find it here in Tbilisi.
Here are four Hot Wheels Toyotas:
A ’70 Yellow Celica ST, I remember the real car from my childhood. A white Toyota Corolla AE-86 from the Japanese manga “Initial D“, the black 2000GT and an Orange Supra from the film “Fast and Furious” (RIP Paul Walker). Hot Wheels make other Toyotas including an MR2 and a Land Cruiser. But I am very happy with these four.
The Toyota Supra released in Orange with the graphics from the original The Fast and the Furious Movie (2001) driven by Brian O Conner, played by the late Paul Walker, in the film.
The Toyota Corolla AE86 was a car I didn’t really know until I started playing Gran Turismo on the Play Station console. The decoration of this Corolla is taken from the Hong Kong film Initial D based on the Japanese Manga of the same name. A film about a young tofu delivery driver with great skill in drifting around hairpin bends in his AE-86 (Sprinter Trueno).
The Celica, I found in a shop at Sabiha Gocken Airport in Istanbul, having looked for months in Tbilisi with no luck. One of the few cars that looks right in yellow.
Found a second one in red with racing tampos. There is a green one out there, too….somewhere.
I don’t just have Hot Wheels Toyotas.
Here in addition to the Hot Wheels models are two RAV 4s made by Majorette, a Chinese made Celica and a Chinese made 2000GT from the James Bond Film “You Only Live Twice“.
I picked this model up for just 20 pence at the Wigginton Boot Sale in August. Toyota didn’t make a convertible version of the 2000GT but Sean Connery was too big to fit in the roadster, so two 2000GTs were adapted to look like convertibles for the film. In the model, James Bond’s girlfriend, Aki, is driving.
A common sight in Tbilisi is the Toyota Land Cruiser. Here a model from Siku.
Some more 4 x 4s : Toyota Tacoma, Toyota 4 Runner (Matchbox) and RAV 4 (Majorette). More here: Toyota 4 x 4

Lexus is the luxury brand of Toyota, a brand launched to compete with BMW and Mercedes. The philosophy being a Toyota won’t be able to command a premium price, no matter how good, because buyers of luxury cars are looking for a premium brand. Similarly, VW has premium brands Audi and Bentley, Ford has Lincoln, Nissan has Infiniti, Tata has Jaguar and Range Rover and Honda has Acura.
