The Acura NSX showed that the Japanese could create a mid engined supercar to compete with the German Porsches and Italian Ferraris and Lamborghinis. In 1984 Honda commissioned the Italian car designer Pininfarina to design the HP-X (Honda Pininfarina Xperimental), from which evolved the NS-X (New Sportscar eXperimental).
I collect JDM models, but the Hot Wheels Acura NSX looks more like a creation of a Hot Wheels designer’s imagination than the usual JDM car.
The original performance target for the NS-X was the Ferrari 328, which was revised to the 348 as the design neared completion. Honda intended the NS-X to meet or exceed the performance of the Ferrari, while offering Honda reliability and a lower price. The first generation NS-X was in production from 1990 to 2005. A second generation is planned for the near future.
